I was fourteen and loneliness began to creep up my spine
Lethal fluid, it pooled in the bottom of my lungs and I gasped with the cold wetness of it
I didn’t even think of you
I was fifteen and sadness was seeping through my skin
Every heart beat pushed it through my veins, pulsing at my wrists like flashing lights, warning me to s l o w d o w n, stop
I was transparent to you but opaque to myself and I was dizzy with longing for something I couldn’t articulate
I was sixteen and your hands reached inside my chest and started to pull everything out
Bones, blood and flesh
We laid it all on a table but we still couldn’t decipher what was wrong
I thought you might give up
I am seventeen and I left everything lying on the same table because it turned out you never gave up
I hope you never will
I am still too empty and you told me to be brave but we both know I’m not
I’ll be eighteen soon and I won’t be here anymore
No one will stop me from leaking and I’m not yet brave enough to do it myself
This sadness might still linger in my bones
